A NEW VISION FOR SKILLS, GROWTH AND COLLABORATION

East Lancashire’s colleges have entered a bold new chapter with the launch of the East Lancashire Learning Group (ELLG) – an education group born from partnership, purpose and a shared ambition to power inclusive economic growth.

ELLG – formerly Nelson and Colne College Group – has united Nelson and Colne College, Accrington and Rossendale College, and Lancashire Adult Learning, along with East Lancashire UC and East Lancashire Apprenticeships under its new name and vision.

The rebrand is much more than a new name – it marks the evolution of a college group that has become central to the region’s economic and social fabric.

A STORY OF GROWTH AND TRUST

Speaking to stakeholders and employers at launch events held at the Mytton Fold Hotel in Langho, Lisa O’Loughlin, principal and chief executive, reflected on how a sixth-

form college with an £11m turnover has grown into a £38m regional skills provider. That journey, she said, has been defined by trust, partnership and impact.

From stepping in to support Lancashire Adult Learning in 2014 and later merging in 2016 following securing a Grade 2 ‘Good’ Ofsted

in the country and number one for A-level and vocational progress. It advises government on technical education reform and is a founding member of the Education Endowment Foundation’s new 16-19 Evidence Partnership, helping shape best practice nationwide.

This is a commitment – to our learners, to our employers, and to our communities. We’ll continue

to stand for excellence, inclusivity and opportunity. And we’ll do it together

inspection, the group went on to merge with Accrington and Rossendale College in 2018, broadening their reach and increasing their impact even further.

Today, ELLG stands as the largest provider of adult skills in Lancashire and a national leader in educational performance, ranked number one provider of adult education

EDUCATION AS THE ENGINE OF INCLUSIVE GROWTH

Lisa emphasised that the group’s new vision is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: education is the engine of inclusive growth.

“Opportunity should not be a privilege,” she said. “It must be available to everyone.”
