LEYLAND MOTORS ON TO THE FUTURE
Leyland has received £25m in funding from the government to turn its regeneration vision into reality.
Along with £13m pledged by South Ribble Council, it means a total of £38m will now be invested into the town centre.
The money will be used to deliver “radical changes” with the plans including a new public square and commercial and residential developments.
The project also includes the refurbishment of Leyland’s market and the creation of a new business hub for skills, events and workspaces.
The Leyland Town Deal Board, which includes representatives from private sector businesses, education, public, community and voluntary sectors submitted the successful bid in October 2020 and now, with the confirmation of funding, the projects can progress.
Work has already been taking place in the background to get the ball rolling. Local people and businesses have been consulted. There has also been an initiative aimed at getting local contractors involved.

Planning applications for the scheme designs have been submitted and the next steps will be finalising the design, appointing contractors to deliver the project and engaging with businesses who will be impacted by the works.
Charles Hadcock, who chairs the Town Deal board, said: “It is now ‘full steam ahead’. It is great to be able to move to the next stage of the project.
“The plans have been developed following a lot of consultation with businesses and residents and there will also be opportunities for local business to get involved in the construction phase of the schemes following the meet the buyer events earlier this year.”
South Ribble Council leader Paul Foster has described the plans for the town as “radical and ambitious.”
He said: “They will provide for delivery of desperately needed affordable homes for our local families, new business units and a long overdue refurbishment for the Leyland market.”
