MILESTONE FOR HOMES DEVELOPER
Kingswood Homes has now sold 200 homes at its Green Hills development at Feniscowles in Blackburn.
The homebuilder is working with Blackburn with Darwen Council towards delivering 440 homes across 136 acres by 2026 as part of the Gib Lane masterplan.
Green Hills includes contemporary-style homes designed by celebrated Lancashire designer Wayne Hemingway’s studio and inspired by the area’s traditional farmsteads and towns.
The development has been shortlisted in the housing project of the year category at the prestigious the Building Awards.
Sales have also been bolstered by Kingswood’s ‘Shape Your Home’ concept which enables buyers to choose from a range of floor options to configure their home to suit their lifestyle.
Options include adding en-suites, creating fewer and therefore larger bedrooms, adding a study, or completely opening up the ground floor to provide an expansive family-friendly, sociable space.
Lesley Myers, sales director for Kingswood Homes, said: “Such a response to Green Hills is incredible and illustrates the importance of the development in providing much-needed homes for the Blackburn area, along with the excitement of buyers at being able to access high-quality homes in such a stunning location.”
CANAL QUARTER MASTERPLAN UNVEILED
New proposals to breathe new life into the Canal Quarter area of Lancaster have been unveiled at a special event in the city.
The aim was to give people the opportunity to view and comment on a proposed masterplan for the site.
A range of visuals were presented giving a snapshot of how the masterplan aims to create a “vibrant and sustainable” mixed-use neighbourhood with a mix of approximately 580 rentable and private homes. They would have their own amenity space as well as semi-private communal spaces.
Safe pedestrian and cycle friendly streets would provide new pedestrian access to Lancaster Canal and surrounding areas and there would be space for business, retail, food and beverage opportunities.
The masterplan also introduces two new public squares to provide “lively social spaces” for events along a new Brewery Street.
Lancaster’s Canal Quarter covers around six acres of land, immediately to the east of the city centre. While the vision covers the entire site, only part of it is in the ownership of the city council.
The council is in the process of a detailed review of whether it can take a role in direct delivery of housing on part of its own land, delivering affordable properties at affordable and social rent and shared ownership.
As reported in the last issue of Lancashire Business View, it is also working with the major private land interests and key government agencies, such as Homes England, to find solutions to overcome viability challenges.
Our Hotspot feature on Lancaster and Morecambe revealed that work was continuing to get the stalled regeneration project moving forward. There have been numerous false starts in a frustrating story that can be traced back over two decades.
Announcing the unveiling of the masterplan last month, a council statement said: “The current economic turbulence presents challenges, but the masterplan is focused on bringing certainty to the desired outcome and shape of development.
“It’s envisaged that sites will be brought forward in phases as funding opportunities become available and delivery arrangements settled.”
