Lancashire must come together to put its weight behind bids to central government for a series of development projects worth in the region of half a billion pounds.
And more unity may be needed for success in the future from a limited investment pot and to get the most out of ‘levelling up’ for the county, delegates at Lancashire Business View’s Built Environment Conference heard.
Panellists called for a broader, over-arching vision for the whole county, and a focus on developing the skills needed in the future.
Work was also needed to ensure ambitious levelling up projects such as the £50m Eden Project North, Blackburn with Darwen’s £60m Business Improvement District and Blackpool’s £65m Multiversity vision, bring long lasting and tangible benefits to communities.
With government initiatives such as the recently announced Investment Zones, and rival city regions already homing in on its financial rewards, speakers stressed now was the time for Lancashire to present a unified front and sell itself.
The conference at Blackpool Football Club featured top property professionals and experts and focused on how to get the most out of levelling up, the need to meet the worrying skills gap in the construction sector, better use of the local supply chain, the drive to improve transport infrastructure and how culture should be integral to projects in the county.

Delegates heard that a co-ordinated approach was needed to take full advantage of the levelling up agenda, with culture, innovation, skills improvements and the cutting of planning red tape vital to facilitate big transformative projects.
