Decision support and intelligent automation is built in to support clinicians and ensure patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time.
With pressure on the NHS at an all-time high, Alcidion is passionate about helping clinicians deliver efficient, high-quality care with technology that makes their day-to-day working lives a little bit easier. Whether that means providing real-time patient status on big screens, or joining up data from different systems so patients don’t need to retell their stories over and over again, Alcidion’s solutions give clinicians the full picture of care for each patient - supporting quicker decisions from admission to discharge and beyond.
The healthcare industry was ready for a digital revolution when Alcidion was established in Burnley in 2018. But the Covid-19 pandemic brought these issues to the fore and Alcidion has grown rapidly since, now employing a team of 50 based around the UK.
The team includes its own clinical staff who continue to spend time on hospital shifts to experience frontline NHS workforce needs.
As Alcidion’s work spreads further afield, managing director Lynette Ousby remains a passionate Burnleyite and Lancastrian. The company has invested in local community projects, including a local defibrillator initiative, and has established strong links with UCLan, local Chambers of Commerce and Burnley Bondholders.
And the government’s £2bn allocated to increasing digitisation of the UK’s healthcare system is good news for the red rose county.

EVERY MINUTE MATTERS: MAKING SURE PATIENTS IN LANCASHIRE RECEIVE TIMELY, QUALITY CARE
Junior doctors and other healthcare professionals at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals have reported significant patient safety improvements following the implementation of Alcidion’s Smartpage communication system.
Smartpage is a secure smartphone and web-based system for hospital communication and task management that can save up to 15 minutes an hour for every doctor.
The implementation at Lancashire Teaching Hospital has resulted in substantial time savings, reduced staff stress, and a far safer and effective way of ensuring patients on wards receive timely responses.
A Medical Assessment Unit Sister at the hospital said, “Smartpage has revolutionised how we contact doctors. No more standing by a phone waiting for a return call after bleeping them. We send real-time patient formation to their mobile app and choose message priority. We can see when the message has been read and have the ability to message back and action any tasks provided by the doctor while they’re on their way to review the patient.
