GLOBAL RECOGNITION FOR LOW CARBON WORK

‘Chamber Low Carbon’, an initiative launched to help businesses reduce their carbon footprint, has won the World Chambers Congress Best Climate Action Project award.

The programme is run by the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, Boost and Businesswise Solutions, and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

It offers a range of support, including free downloadable resources and one-to-one

advice and help for those developing green technologies, as well as events and networking forums.

The award comes after Chamber Low Carbon worked with more than 1,000 businesses, issuing almost £500,000 in grants, creating 5,300 tonnes of CO2 savings, and working with 160 low carbon tech innovators and manufacturers.

The World Chambers Congress took place in Dubai and attracted 1,200 attendees from around the world.

APPRENTICESHIP DRIVE TAKES OFF

Defence giant BAE Systems is set to hire almost 1,700 apprentices and graduates across the UK in 2022.

They will include 329 new recruits in Lancashire across its Air and Shared Services businesses based in Warton, Samlesbury and Preston.

Early careers

employees are the foundation of our future and the

diversity of skills

Another 453 will be employed at BAE Systems’ submarine plant in Barrow-in-Furness.

The figures add up to the largest intake of early careers roles that the business has offered in a single year.

Announcing the recruitment drive, chief executive Charles Woodburn said: “Creating high quality employment opportunities for young people across the country ensures we retain the critical capabilities we need to sustain our business for the long-term, while also helping to drive growth across the UK’s regional economies.

“Early careers employees are the foundation of our future and the diversity of skills and experience they bring enables us to continue to innovate and deliver the very best technology and support to our Armed Forces.”

Successful candidates can look forward to working on nationally important technology programmes, including Tempest, a future combat air system for the RAF.
