PRODUCT NEWS

rental rate stays the same.

Therefore, if you are considering replacing your sweeper, tanker or spreader it’s worth asking for a cost comparison to see how competitive a rental could be.

Controllability

Most councils, although having purchased equipment, will then fund the asset through a leasing company via a separate tender. Due to the time scales involved, this could extend the operational life of the equipment up to a year before the funding starts. A compact sweeper with a life expectancy of 4 years could still have up to a year to go on a lease before it can be returned. At 4 years the sweeper could be uneconomical to keep repairing but the council may have no choice but to keep doing expensive repairs until the lease runs out. On the other hand, lease companies have specific deadlines for the end of the contract; few will offer to extend the lease on a month-by-month basis, instead requesting an extension for up to a year. Rentals are much easier to manage, the start date is set, and a minimum term is agreed upon, this can be 1-10 years. If the

contract goes over by a few months, rental companies can be much more flexible, offering the customer extensions if required on a short-term hire basis.

Flexibility

Every council has had their share of changes over the past 10 years and with leased assets or purchased equipment, change is difficult and can be costly. With rentals it is possible to change equipment as the requirements change, standard sweepers could be taken back or exchanged for a much lower fee than lease companies may charge.

Impartial advice

What is often underestimated is the unbiased advice the rental company could offer. Manufacturers will provide the features and benefits of their products but be reluctant to highlight the weaknesses. Sometimes a mix of brands is the best solution for the operation, and during a competitive tender process, it is difficult to separate the brands to get the best solution. Rental companies can offer a one-stop

shop regardless of make and model. With the knowledge and experience rental companies have, we can advise customers on the best-suited product for the job, the lowest operating cost product, the most reliable and so on.

Review meetings

Many manufacturers are focused on sales, so once the sale is completed and the sweeper has been delivered the salesperson moves on to the next call. Rental businesses are different, regular review meetings are established at the start of the contract and adhered to. Service performance is discussed, and out-of-contract costs are reviewed, rental companies will look to help you reduce damage and work with the manufacturer to improve the product, whereas the manufacturer may never find out about repeat damage issues or failures.

Whilst many rental businesses are sweating assets and struggling to get funding, NRG Riverside continue to invest in new equipment to provide our customers with the highest levels of productivity and uptime.

The world’s first brushless industrial pump from Saniflo

Saniflo continues to innovate in the industrial waste pump sector by becoming the first manufacturer to offer a brushless option. The popular Sanicubic 2 Pro Smart is a pumping station designed to lift grey and black waste water from individual properties, small businesses and light commercial premises such as pubs and restaurants. The new brushless version extends the range to three models – the classic, the Pro Smart and the Pro Smart brushless.

Brushless is an advanced technology that improves motor lifespan, product efficiency and reliability, widely used in various products, including power tools, boiler pumps, and appliances such as lawnmowers. It eliminates the electrical connection to the spinning motor, which can create heat, friction and noise. In the Sanicubic 2 Pro Smart, it allows the regulation of the motor to run at variable speeds. This offers further advantages, including:

■ Energy saving of up to 30% ■ High efficiency ■ High torque and thus better grinding quality ■ Lower noise

Tim Pestell, Managing Director of Saniflo, believes the new technology will appeal strongly to commercial businesses. He says: “As the pioneer of the macerator concept, Saniflo, true to form, is now pioneering the use of new brushless technology in lifting stations. We believe it will be a popular option with customers installing pumps for industrial projects.”
