The coarse screening container receives the raw product and removes the crude debris, rags and detritus from the waste stream before the polymer dosing unit transfers the screened product to the dewatering container, injecting the correct amount of polymer solution into the waste stream. This causes flocculation which separates the solid and water fractions; once the separated fractions reach the dewatering container the solids are held back using specially designed filtration panels within, allowing the filtrate to escape and allowing a cake to form. The resulting cake, depending on its origin, can then go for either composting, biomass or as a last resort, landfill. Dexter Watson is also in the process of designing a final filtration unit which will take final effluents or filtrates up to a LOG 7 clarity for reuse in other processes, which saves the use of mains water, or they can be released back into the environment with

All Dexter Watson equipment produces zero emissions and being mobile can be placed centrally to any operation providing customers with a round the clock facility, saving wasted mileage, running costs and standing loads. The huge volumes of waste during throughput can be reduced by up to 95 per cent. The polymer dosing unit can run off mains or generator electricity and has a dB rating of 89.


Dexter Watson’s dewatering units, coarse screening units, drainage containers, polymer dosing units and filtration systems are all designed to deal with waste from a variety of waste streams: septic tanks, cesspits, sewerage treatment works, grease traps, culverts, ponds and dykes along with road sweeper/gully waste, oily and chemical residues. If it flocs it will filter, so it could be argued that by providing the tools they are cleaning up the environment, albeit indirectly.


Interesting green developments


Mark Malsom of enz UK had an interesting development to bring in to the picture, and one with a potentially greener footprint. Enz has launched a series of jetting nozzles that incorporate on-board cameras. This means water jetting and camera viewing can be done at the same time in many applications.
