MAIN FEATURE

Marsh Industries

many Ensign Sewage treatment plants on the trailers as are permitted in a safe manner, to minimise the overall number of journeys with optimal delivery scheduling. As fully functioning above or below ground sewage treatment plants, products like the Portapura range provide portable off-mains drainage solutions and mean that there is no need to dig temporary cesspits which later have to be removed and excavations filled in. They are especially useful at sites set up for a couple of years as they are easily decommissioned and moved on to the next placement. By treating waste on site there is also less volume of waste to be removed, so carbon footprint is reduced without the need for regular tanker visits.

Michael agreed it was more a series of ongoing small steps rather than one massive item making all the difference to the company’s green credentials, but confirmed they were constantly seeking other effective ways of doing things all the time. As an example, in-house they polish tanks and moulds with recycled cloths, and the products themselves have a 50- year working life expectancy.

He said: “We have customers that log how far we’ve travelled to get to their sites, for example, and we are increasingly asked questions about carbon reduction and our waste agenda. Although the products we make may not have a lower carbon footprint as such during manufacture, they do provide a level of off-site construction. The economical and efficient treatment processes seen in the Ensign, Ultra:Polylok and Portapura provide reductions in energy consumption whilst achieving market leading effluent quality. Our products are at the forefront of industry compliance and environmental sustainability.”

Marsh Industries’ products like Ultra:Polylok sewerage treatment plants, Hydroil separators (preventing oil and hydrocarbons entering the drainage systems) and Ensign domestic sewerage treatment plants are in wide use around the UK , along with their Wellwater pump stations.
