Gullymaintenance and safety log


The NADC Environment andWaste committee continues towork alongside key stakeholders on the subject of roadside gullymaintenance and the creation of updated industry guidance that is based on commercial realities andminimisation of carbon emissions. Thework is being facilitated by CIRIA, and interested parties are invited to get in touchwith NADC. The Committee has also created an industry safety log formembers to report issues that are associatedwith any vehicles or equipment that they use. The information gatheredwill be used to feed back to vehicle, machinery and equipmentmanufacturers and suppliers any designweaknesses or opportunities for design improvementswith their products. As an example – the operation of boomhandles appears to be an issue across the industry. As already stated, contractor health and safety is a key platformfor NADC.


NewNADC CCTV and Rehab Committee At the behest ofmembers, NADC is creating a


CCTV and Rehab Committee thatwill focus on this ever developing contractor specialism. The Committeewill be constituted of NADCmember contractors of different sizesworking across the wholemarket andwill also have representation fromthe specialist suppliers to the industry. As one of its core objectives, the Committeewill focus on the promotion of the use of CCTV surveying for all properties and infrastructure regardless of size or location. In addition itwill look at the value of completed surveys and how theymight be used across the sewer and drain estate in a productiveway.


NADC Emergency SpillageGuide


NADC has created a newEmergency Spillage Guide formembers covering all elements of spillagemanagement and training, including hazardous clinicalwaste spillages, fuel oil spillages, chemical spillages and biologically hazardous spillages. As ever, this guide focuses on the health and safety of contractors aswell as managing andminimising the environmental impact of spillages. It has a best practices section that dealswith vehicles and equipment, handling, storage and disposal ofmaterials, and also the points of contact for reporting spillages and help and support.

The refreshed NADCwebsite is gaining


increasing footfall in respect of both domestic and non-domestic enquiries andmembers are benefiting frombusiness introductions fromthis source. Promotion of thewebsite is verymuch part of NADC’s future plans as core to the delivery ofmembers benefits, and the Association has become increasingly active on socialmediawhich is nowchannelled through BoardMember Benn Houghton
