SEFTON ST HELENS

LIVERPOOL WIRRAL HALTON

PROGRESS

LIVERPOOL2

Liverpool2’s latest phase will include the installation of a further three ship to shore cranes (STS) and 10 cantilever rail mounted gantry cranes (CRMG). These will add to the previous five STS cranes and 12 CRMG. Liverpool2 will have the capacity to manage the unloading of two 380m vessels simultaneously.

CRUISE LINER TERMINAL

Liverpool City Council has submitted planning regarding proposals to create a permanent £50m cruise terminal facility in Liverpool. The current facility is able to accommodate 60 vessels per year and 120,000 visitors plus crew. The expansion will allow for boats with 3,600 passenger capacities to dock in Liverpool.

MERSEY GATEWAY PROJECT

Without an effective bridge crossing between Runcorn and Widnes, commuters would have to travel via Warrington which is a 15.7-mile route at roughly 40 minutes or via the Queensway tunnel which is 26.7 miles taking roughly 45 minutes. The Mersey Gateway Bridge crossing takes roughly 2 minutes with a distance of just under 2 miles.

RAIL

In October 2017 a three-week project saw engineers install a signalling system to improve the reliability of trains. This also enabled trains to run in and out of platforms one and two while work was underway. The total estimated cost of the Lime Street station redevelopment when complete in 2018 is £110m.
