STEM AMBASSADORS We are extremely proud of our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) provision here at Petroc and were delighted to retain our ‘STEM Assured’ standard in 2019; the only college in Devon with this accolade!
Many of our Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths learners sign up to be STEM Ambassadors, volunteering their time to bring STEM subjects to life to demonstrate their value to others. Being a STEM Ambassador as a student is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your commitment and enthusiasm for the subject to future employers.
STUDENT UNION As a student of Petroc, you automatically become a member of the Student Union. The Petroc Student Union, or 'PSU', is run by an Executive Committee of elected students for the benefit of students, and exists to support you with all aspects of college life during your time at Petroc.
We hosted an exciting array of activities last year, including Film Screenings, Young Carers Breakfast, LGBT+ talks, and social events.
There are also opportunities to become a PSU committee member, which provides fantastic experience and will help improve your CV.

Our Volleyball Academy has had an exceptional year! Both the men's and women's teams won the Regional Championships, meaning they went on to the AoC National Finals to represent the South West. The girls won silver, making the final for the 5th consecutive year and the boys won gold, defending the title they won last year. An amazing achievement for everyone involved.

SPORT ACADEMIES As part of a sports academy you will be able to hone your talent through weekly coaching sessions, as well as learn about nutrition, sports psychology and strength and conditioning. The college has had great success over the years, representing the South West, winning the Association of Colleges sport (AoC) National Championships and having players represent their sport for England and Great Britain.
WORK EXPERIENCE ABROAD
Erasmus+ is the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport.
It provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to study, volunteer and gain work experience abroad. Students taking part not only get to experience life overseas and face all the challenges and fun this can bring, but they return with more confidence and motivation, having acquired many life-skills that will set them apart in the job market.
Petroc arranges a number of trips each year, including sports and fitness coaching in The Netherlands, outdoor learning and early years education in Sweden, and work experience in automotive garages in Spain.
In 2018/19 we sent 153 students abroad, and in 2019/20 we have 11 trips planned across a variety of courses!
