Choosing the right tool To reduce the likelihood of chipping the surface when turning, we recommend using a negative rake scraper at it is easy to control and not likely to have a catch or chip the blank. Our favorite pen turning tool is the Easy Pen Turner found on page 150. T e Sorby Negative Rake Scraper is a good negative rake scraper (page 10) or you can make a negative rake scraper using an existing scraper by grinding a bevel on the topside of the tool.
Finishing We recommend sanding through 600 grit then using Micro Magic 3-step process to perform fi nal polishing. You can also buff the blank using 20/20 Plastics Polish to help achieve a glass-like surface on your pens.
