How the Power of Live Entertainment Can Put a Country on the Youth Travel Map 13:15-14:15 WTM Global Stage Experiential tourism, driven by the power of live entertainment and underpinned by global brands MTV and Nickelodeon, has proved to be highly successful in repositioning Malta as a youth travel destination. Holidays to Malta among MTV viewers are up 70% over the last five years, which provides Malta with differentiation in the competitive family holiday market. This illuminating panel session, moderated by MTV VJ and host of the Isle of MTV Malta Festival Becca Dudley, will explore the role of city branding in driving tourism, the importance of understanding consumer trends, attitudes and behaviours, the challenges of producing live music and entertainment events in a historic location and the benefits of close, collaborative, long-term partnerships.
With Asia’s consistent growth in the travel industry, its culinary prowess has been publicised globally. A panel of industry leaders will discuss recent trends in the Asian culinary market and how travel companies in the region are utilising it to boost tourism. There will be a Q&A after the panel discussion.

As other industries reduce their carbon emissions, air travel will account for ever-larger shares of global emissions. This session will bring together a panel of experts to share their views about the prospects for the decarbonisation of air travel, including Justin Francis, co-founder and CEO of
Responsibletravel.com, and Peter Castellas of carbon offset provider Tasman Environmental Markets.
The Premier Partnership deal with WTM London will see thousands

and buyers be introduced
to the country’s new “So Sri Lanka” branding, and hundreds of journalists and influencers will hear about the country’s heritage.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau will share its exhibition space at WTM London with 67 trade partners, including travel agencies, resorts and operators.
The destination has also teamed up with legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara to act as a spokesperson.
Tourist numbers plunged 70% in the wake of April’s tragic events, but concerted efforts by the Sri Lankan tourist industry mean the recovery is happening faster than expected.
Tourist arrivals in 2018 reached a record 2.3 million – worth almost $4.4 billion – and numbers still look set to top two million in 2019.
John Amaratunga, minister of tourism development, wildlife and Christian religious affairs, said: “Tourism is a lifeline to Sri Lanka’s economy. Before long, tourism will be the number one revenue earner.”
