Madeleine Barber
This month Palladium Hotel Group debuts two new five-star hotels in Costa Mujeres on the north-east coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort and Spa is a family-friendly property and will launch alongside TRS Coral Hotel, an adults-only alternative. Nacho Gozalbo, the group’s commercial director for the UK, France and Scandinavia, said: “With our two new hotels, we’re bringing a brand-new proposition to Mexico’s Costa Mujeres. We’re looking forward to introducing our guests to one of the hidden treasures of Mexico – they can experience virgin beaches, crystal- clear waters and an abundance of coral reefs and marine species.” The Costa Mujeres development will feature multiple restaurants and bars, beach clubs, three kids’

Its high-end offering has even seen TRS Coral named as one of “The Leading Hotels of the World” – the first Palladium property to receive this recognition.

HOW HAS BUSINESS BEEN THIS YEAR? Exceptionally good, with a steady increase in room nights and revenue year- on-year. Although most of our business comes from the UK, we have also seen a rise in other markets, such as Israel, due to the increase in flights to Paphos.
WHAT’S YOUR BIG STORY FOR THE SHOW? 2018 saw the completion of the new Holiday Residences building, with an exclusive reception and guest lounge. This new facility adds to the overall holiday experience and offers something new that no other villa holiday providers offer.

WHAT’S IN THE PIPELINE FOR 2019? Next year will see our new facilities in full operation, having only introduced this facility mid-season in July 2018. We will also be working on the introduction of our eco-friendly properties, which during 2019 should reach a total of four units offering homes partially energised by solar sources and environmentally friendly gardens.
Palladium is also planning to open its first hotel on the Costa del Sol in 2019. Gozalbo explained: “We
have been looking for the right opportunity to expand into new destinations for a while, and an emblematic location like Costa del Sol was a great fit for our group, as we can capitalise on our knowledge of the Spanish hotel industry and our expertise in operating beachfront hotels.”
This announcement comes at the same time as the reveal of Bless Collection Hotels, a new brand that Palladium has developed to offer the epitome of hedonistic luxury. “The new brand is dedicated to life’s pleasures and promises to provide the most decadent luxury to its guests. The Hedonist Luxury proposition will be brought to life through a range of exclusive sensory experiences designed to feed the spirit,” said Gozalbo.
The new concept’s flagship experiences include a personal butler to guide guests through a bathing experience, and the opportunity to personalise pillows and bed linen. Plus, the hotel’s culinary offerings are headed up by eight Michelin-starred Basque chef Martin Berasategui.

HOW’S BUSINESS GOING? Hoteliers in Cambodia are working hard to promote the country as a destination in its own right, and the outlook for 2019 is encouraging.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST NEWS? Opening this December, Shinta Mani Wild-Bensley Collection is an ambitious new concept for a luxury, tented camp in the depths of the Cardamom Mountains by an important elephant migration trail.
AND WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON FOR 2019? Cambodia will become a key player in the luxury segment, with new openings across the country. A distinctive effort is being made by hoteliers to build and operate sustainably. The Shinta Mani Foundation is at the heart of everything we do so we are looking forward to planning our community outreach projects and welcoming a new class of hospitality students in 2019.
IS THIS YOUR FIRST WTM LONDON? Yes, so I am excited to see how it differs to other international trade shows. It will give me the chance to meet people with the same interest in travel.
