QUEBEC INCREASES ROOMS Four Seasons will launch a hotel on Montreal’s Golden Square Mile in early 2019, and Club Med will open its first resort in Quebec City in 2020. The $120 million all-inclusive Club Med Mountain Resort will be located in Le Massif, an hour away from Quebec City airport, and will open all year. (NA400)
AIRLIFT OPENS UP ONTARIO On March 31, 2019, Norwegian will launch its first flight to Canada from Dublin. The carrier will fly into Hamilton from the Irish capital and roll out its new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft with 189 seats on the route. Only a one-hour drive from Toronto, Hamilton offers easy access to some of the province’s highlights, including Niagara Falls and the Blue Mountains. The service will operate daily and tickets cost €189 one way. (NA400)
ALBERTA EXPANDS SKI OFFERING
New this year, visitors to Lake Louise backcountry can explore a new territory on a guided interpretive snowshoe tour. SkiBig3, which works on behalf of Mt Norquay, Banff Sunshine and Lake Louise ski resorts, is promoting a new three- day programme that allows visitors to take to the best runs. HEATHROW EXPRESS AND AMADEUS COLLABORATE Heathrow Express is announcing a partnership with Amadeus for the fi rst time at WTM London. The premium rail company will reveal a new website and app with a booking platform for travel agents, alongside a revised pricing structure, and it will be introducing new gates at London’s Paddington station so customers will be able to use contactless payments for the service. DESTINATION PLYMOUTH CREATES ALLIANCE Destination Plymouth is leading the collaboration of 13 destinations in the lead up to 2020 and Mayfl ower 400, the 400th anniversary of the Mayfl ower’s historic voyage from Plymouth to the “New World”, America. The initiative, named US
Connections, will launch a series of immersive, bookable English- themed visitor experiences designed especially for the American market and aimed at highlighting the connections between England and America. Themes include “United Allies”, “Special Relationship” ancestral tours and “Origins of Faith”. (UKI400)
WALES GAINS NEW FESTIVAL In May 2019, the very fi rst Wales Coast Path Walking Festival will take place to mark the seven- year anniversary of this 870-mile uninterrupted coastal path. Walks organised by Ramblers Cymru will be designed to suit all walking abilities, from short family-friendly jaunts to more challenging options. The festival hopes to attract visitors to the seven coastal regions (South Wales, the Gower, Ceredigion, the Llyn Peninsula, Pembrokeshire,
