axo Bank has appointed Vivienne Yu as CEO of Greater China, ostensibly to further grow the
firm’s retail and wholesale business in the region. Yu most recently served as CEO China at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where she led CBA China’s investment and proprietary banking business for the retail, SME and institutional client base.
Prior to this, Yu spent four years at Bank of Hangzhou (listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange) as a CEO for both retail and business banking.
Yu will assume overall responsibility for expanding Saxo Bank’s services and customer base and drive strategic business growth in the Greater China region, including offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Yakiv Smolii has been appointed the new governor of the National Bank of Ukraine. Smolii becomes the tenth governor of the National Bank in the history of independent Ukraine. He has served as acting governor of the National Bank of Ukraine since 11 May 2017.
Smolii started his career in banking software and IT. In 1994 he became head of the Automation Office at the Aval Joint Stock Post Pension Bank. Smolii was later promoted to deputy chairman of the board at the bank.
He joined the National Bank of Ukraine team in April 2014 and since then has held the position of the deputy governor of the National Bank, supervising settlement transactions.
SIA has named Christine Neumüller as the company’s new country manager for Germany. Neumüller will report directly
to SIA’s international division director, Cristina Astore. Prior to joining the firm, she was head of cards application management for Germany at UniCredit Business Integrated
Solutions, where she worked for 10 years.
Between 2003- 2006, she was senior project manager at HVB Systems, while from 2001 to 2003 she joined HypoVereinsbank with the role of head of self- service solutions. Neumüller began her professional career at Sparda Datenverarbeitung where in 1998 she was appointed head of application development for self- service technology.
Jason Connelly has taken up a new role as managing director for business strategy and execution at Axioma. Connelly previously served as global head of analytics managed services at MSCI, a role he started in 2014. Prior to that he spent three years at MSCI as manager for analytics managed services.
Earlier in his career, Connelly held positions at JP Morgan Arrakis, Platinum Online International and DE Shaw. He holds a BA from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. “Jason will focus on strategic efforts to identify, target

and develop market opportunities for Axioma,” said Sebastian Ceria, CEO of Axioma.
The New Payment System Operator (NPSO) has shifted Geoff Close, the firm’s interim COO, to a new position as chief risk officer. Close has previously held CRO roles at GE Capital and FIS, where he was also COO.
Close’s appointment is the third C-Suite position confirmed by the NPSO in recent weeks. In February it was announced that Matthew Hunt, currently COO for the Monetary Policy area at the Bank of England, will take on the role of the NPSO’s COO, while Jenny Crawford, currently deputy CEO of UK Payments Administration Ltd (UKPA),
