Management

The Indian domestic banking technology system sales performance has been mirroring that of the US market, with local banks, microfinance institutions and NBFCs making up majority of the customer portfolio for suppliers.

But that’s where the similarities stop for the Indian market. While core banking system sales are prevalent in the local market, more than half of the local deals reported to the SLT were related to Digital Banking Channels and Compliance & Risk Management solutions in 2017. This is also a reflection of the country’s government led technology initiatives in the past few years, which has led to the market having a far more advanced financial technology infrastructure compared to even developed countries such as the USA where real-time payments among banks were only launched in 2017. A case in point is the presence of the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) which allows for instantaneous peer to peer payments between institutions and individuals using the bank’s infrastructure.

The second year of the Indian Domestic Sales League Table saw a huge surge in domestic deals recording 130 deals across categories compared to just 25 deals in the previous year. This of course is also a function of more participants and an increased in the domestic deals recorded by suppliers.

In light of large number of deals reported across system categories this year, this year’s Indian Domestic Sales League table has been

segmented by categories in order to recognize leaders within each category.

Of note this year was Infrasoft Technologies that dominated the India domestic SLT with 35 deals for its Qrys Digital Payment Solutions under the digital banking category and 13 deals for its OMNIEnterprise™ Anti Money Laundering Solution in the Compliance & Risk Management System category.

TCS Bancs continued to top the Universal Banking category within the Domestic India Sales League Table with 2 deals. There is evidently a strategic focus towards targeting smaller banks domestically, while focusing on medium to large banks globally, as demonstrated by its 18 global deals in 2017.

The Retail Banking Systems category was led by TrustBankCBS repeating last year’s domestic sales performance with seven deals. The Lending Systems category was dominated by specialist lending systems suppliers, with Nucleus Software’s FinnOne Neo leading the pack winning 12 domestic deals followed by Intellect Design Arena’s Intellect Digital Lending in the runners up position with 4 deals.

This year the lending category within the Domestic India Sales League Table saw a new participant, Pennant Technology’s Pennant Lending Factory who debuted at the second runners up position with 3 domestic deals in 2017.
