SALES LEAGUE TABLE
Strong momentum in banking technology system sales, but is core still the king?
The nominees have been evaluated and the final tallying has been done; it is time to tear open the envelopes and announce the results for the IBS Intelligence Sales League Table 2018
T
his year, the annual IBS Intelligence Sales League Table (SLT) received an overwhelming participation from suppliers reporting new customer wins. To put things into perspective, this year saw 51 suppliers (SLT 2017: 44 suppliers) reporting 580+ new customer name global deals and 490+ domestic deals across the ten SLT categories, nearly 50% more than the reported deals in SLT 2017. While this reflects the growing demand within the banking industry for digital technology solutions, the increase in the number of suppliers reporting their deals is also a testament to the recognition of the IBSI Sales League Table as a barometer for banking technology system sales performance.
CONVENTIONAL BACK OFFICE SYSTEMS PERFORMANCE
Is core still the king amongst banking technology systems? In the myriad of growing digital banking and mobile banking solutions, it would be contradictory to think so. However, deal submissions to the IBSI Sales League Table 2018 reminded us that conventional back-office systems such as retail banking systems, treasury, lending, wealth management systems and of course the all-encompassing universal banking systems remain the heart of the banking systems and the demand for these systems is expected to continue in the near future. It is important to highlight here that while the total volume of global new named customer deals for the conventional categories in 2017 dropped
marginally by ~3%, suppliers also reported a large volume of local deals which are captured in our Domestic Sales League Tables. For readers evaluating the market, it is imperative to consider both the global as well as the domestic sales performance of suppliers in order get the complete picture of the market.
Looking at the performance of individual systems in the conventional categories, the leaderboard continued to remain the bastion of the large global suppliers although there was a shuffle in rankings for the top spot this year.
Temenos T24 Core Banking continued its dominance in the universal banking category besting its last year’s tally of 43 deals by clocking 45 new customer deals in 2017. The runner up this year was TCS BaNCS who also saw an improvement in its global new customer
