Catch the Vision

How I Found Jesus by Jerry Clay

I am a born-again believer and a member of Jansen Bible Church ( JBC) of Jansen, Neb. But on Oct. 6, 2003, I was another lost soul, oblivious to God, Jesus, and the Bible, and thinking life was going just fine, until a personal crisis hit me. I discovered that my wife at that time was planning on leaving me. To tell the truth, I really didn't blame her. I was an alcoholic who drank every day. My wife attended JBC with her two kids, but I only went occa- sionally just to please her. I didn't really listen and didn't really care to be there. Our pastor, Paul Carpenter, had even witnessed to me once

at a local business, but I abruptly put my hand in his face, saying, "No thanks, Pastor, I don't need to hear that — I'm fine!" He politely withdrew, and we discussed other topics, but he told me much later that he and many others from church continued to pray for my salvation. Well, little did I know that salvation would happen to me on

that October aſternoon, in Pastor’s study! I went there hoping he would persuade my wife not to leave me. I wasn't planning on for- saking alcohol, mind you, just being my usual selfish self! It was a surprise to me that no one was at the church when I arrived. I had no idea preachers had Mondays off! I sat on the steps of the office, crying, and praying to a God I did not yet know. More selfishness I suppose.
