Welcome to the LATA Foundation
We’re pleased to be included within this guide and to have the opportunity to let you know a little bit about the LATA Foundation, as well as outline how you can get involved
Created by LATA (
lata.travel), the UK body representing the Latin American travel industry, the LATA Foundation’s mission is to support grassroots projects throughout Latin America to help transform lives, supply clean water, dental or medical support, and offer practical training and skills to empower local communities. Broadly, the foundation’s aims are: • Conservation of the environment • Relief of poverty • Sustainable development, economic growth and regeneration
• Promotion of ethical and responsible business practices
These aims and principles are right at
the heart of what we do and we work very closely with the travel industry to encourage travel companies to adopt the same principles. We’re also very grateful to some of the
Latin American travel specialists, such as Journey Latin America and Jacada Travel, for their fundraising efforts. We’re very lucky to be working with a team of great volunteers who give up their time for free so that every penny raised can be spent on essential grassroots projects. Currently, the LATA Foundation works with 10 core projects in Latin America and
also fundraises for emergency appeals — for example, in the wake of the recent volcanic eruption in Guatemala, we raised funds to provide essential breathing equipment to local communities. We’d love to engage further with the UK
travel industry so we’ve included some top tips on getting involved. Whether it’s simply connecting with us on social media taking part in a charity challenge, there are loads of ways to help. If you have any ideas or would like to fundraise for the LATA Foundation, please do get in touch. Chris Pickard, chairman of the LATA Foundation.
