Promotional feature Q&A

JONI L. REIN, Vice President

Sales & Marketing, U.S. Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, Scenic Eclipse & Emerald Waterways

What most surprises Scenic’s first-time guests?

That on a Scenic river cruise we actually deliver on our promise of

‘Truly All-inclusive’. Guests board our ships and never have to open their

wallets at check in, for drinks, shore excursions, gratuities, nothing!

What type of clients are a great match for a Scenic cruise?

Our target demographic is active, well-traveled, has high disposable income and is very discriminating. Scenic guests are aged 50-70, married, empty nesters, educated with a household income of $125k+ and a net worth of $1m+. The

Emerald Waterways guest is similar but their net worth starts at $500k.

Why are your river boats ‘Space- Ships’ and what sets them apart? The term ‘Space-Ships’ emphasizes the higher-than-usual space ratio on our ships. If it wasn’t for the ever-changing scenery, guests

would believe they were staying in a five-star hotel. Our ships are purpose-built for the rivers they sail and guests enjoy the ultimate in

luxury. Plus, our owner is constantly reading guest experience cards,

providing feedback to the captains and finding inventive new ways to delight our guests.

What would you like agents to

know about working with Scenic? Agents can book us with confidence knowing their clients will be wowed. We value our partnership with agents and can assist with product

training, plus we have a strong group program. We also provide marketing support, will help co-host an event/ info-session and will host a webinar for your invited guests where we

make the presentation. Also, look for our new agent portal set to launch in the next few months.

8. Attention to small details that make a big difference Scenic truly goes the extra mile to ensure

its passengers don’t have to. For example, a priority is docking in the heart of each city. Tis year, the line opened its own dock in Portugal so passengers could step straight into the center of Cais de Maragaia. Scenic is also the only line to provide a ‘River Cruising Guarantee’ which covers guests for cancellations or delays due to weather, natural disasters, mechanical breakdowns, labor strikes and high/low water issues at no charge, providing reimbursement in direct monetary refunds. While its ships are relatively new, they are constantly being upgraded and improved.

9. An ocean vessel that takes luxury to the ends of the earth Scenic Luxury Cruises is taking its brand

of ultra-luxury to the oceans with its first expedition yacht, the Scenic Eclipse. Te ship will launch in the Mediterranean on August 31, 2018, and will sail south through Te Americas to Antarctica, through Europe and on to the Arctic Circle. Cutting-edge GPS dynamic position technology will allow it to ‘anchor’ in areas where physical anchors aren’t permitted. Unlike many expeditionary ships, the Scenic Eclipse is built for indulgence, with 114 suites ranging in size from 345sq ft verandah suites to the 2,695sq ft, two-bedroom penthouse. A nearly 1:1 guest to crew ratio and Scenic’s signature butler service provide VIP treatment.

10. Extending the brand Sensing demand for a Scenic-quality river

cruise at a lower price point, the company launched Emerald Waterways with two ships in April 2014, and has since added five ships. Te ships achieve lower price points by being a bit less inclusive, charging for upgraded shore excursions and offering shorter itineraries. Scenic will also be promoting its land journeys, already sold internationally, to the U.S. market in January 2018. Incorporating the all-inclusive pricing and signature experiences of Scenic cruises, these intimate journeys accept a maximum of 36 guests per departure and feature Scenic Special Stays that afford unique access to natural beauty, luxurious character or culture. Scenic & Emerald Waterways also recently added a series of excursions to appeal to cyclists this year. Stay tuned, because with Scenic, there’s always something new on the horizon.
