2. Skilled, academy-trained butlers on hand day and night Every cabin enjoys the services of a butler
providing refreshments and concierge services. Diamond Deck passengers can also request butler-served breakfasts in their suite, while Royal and Royal Panorama Suite guests are welcomed with a complimentary bottle of Champagne as their butler unpacks. All butlers are graduates of the International Butler Academy, with training tailored to Scenic specifications. No matter what level cabin is booked, a 2:1 guest/staff ratio and training program ensure a high level of personal service.
3. Staterooms to stretch out in as the world glides by Scenic builds its own river boats, which
it calls ‘space ships’ in reference to their spacious layouts. One of its best innovations is the Scenic Sun Lounge, a smart sitting area. At the push of a button, the room’s glass wall retracts to transform into an open balcony. Most cabins feature these sunroom/balconies and, sized from 205sq ft for Balcony Suites to over 300sq ft for Royal Suites, are among the industry’s largest. Bedrooms feature Scenic Slumber Beds, dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets and duvets. L’Occitane toiletries, fluffy bathrobes, ample closet and drawer space, and 24-hour room service add to the sense of staying at a five-star resort.
4. ‘Tailormade’ technology that personalizes touring Te term ‘Space-Ships’ could be
misleading considering the fast-forward technology Scenic has tapped to create GPS- triggered guides. An improvement on the Quietvox headset system most river cruise lines use, Scenic pioneered Tailormade, an intuitively useful GPS-based system. Passengers don’t need to sit near speakers to catch the captain’s commentary; wherever they are onboard, the GPS-triggered system will automatically alert them to landmarks and provide narration that can be easily tailored to their specific interests. Once ashore, those who want to strike out on their own — either on foot or by bike — can use Tailormade to follow more than 240 curated walking itineraries and 50+ cycling options, complete with maps and photos, all customized to their own interests. Commentary can be activated wherever they become curious, and when they’re ready to return, the device directs them back to the ship. ▶
