Tese are neighboring bohemian barrios that are at once moneyed and yet still gentrifying, at least on Roma Norte’s eastern edges. Te tree-canopied streets of the former offer a welcome breath of fresh air after the comparatively congested center, along with great street food, hip courtyard cafés, and independent bars. Te latter comes with a more arty range of bars and Airbnb rentals set in its elegant, beaux-arts townhouses, vibrant vinyl stores, and several weekend antiques and flea markets (between Colima to Álvaro Obregon), plus some decidedly pretty tattoo parlors whose creativity is only challenged by the eye-popping murals that adorn neighborhood walls. Tese twin districts are safe yet stimulating, and while not packed with tourists they aren’t far from the action of the Zona Rosa and Centro Histórico. Te best way to get under the skin of these oh-so-cool central colonias is to stay there, explore on foot, and ask locally for the best eats and places to party. In these fashionable zip codes, things change pretty fast.
