suites and a private island villa featuring three bedrooms, a lounge, TV room and kitchen, the island offers both intimacy and space. Accessible by a narrow suspension bridge
crossing the tranquil river, Aino is close to the mainland yet feels a world apart. Each season brings its own atmosphere. In summer, guests can swim in the river’s clear, fresh water under the midnight sun, followed by traditional Finnish sauna rituals. During autumn, the Northern Lights often appear, their colours reflected on the surface of the water. In winter, the island becomes a quiet landscape of shimmering snow and ice. With both indoor and outdoor spaces designed to immerse
guests in nature, Aino offers a serene vantage point for Lapland’s most remarkable light phenomena. Outdoor fireplaces invite unhurried moments by the fire under Arctic skies. The island also offers a high-level culinary
experience shaped by the land and seasons. The kitchen focuses on locally sourced Arctic ingredients, prepared with care and Nordic precision. What’s on offer is elevated comfort food — fine dining soul food that reflects the region and its rhythms, served in a setting where each meal becomes part of the experience. Beyond the accommodation and dining, the
island is shaped by its layered past. In the late 19th century, pharmacist Axel Castren purchased the island and renamed it ‘Ainola’ in honour of his wife. He built a wooden pavilion in the 1880s as a tribute to their shared love for nature and serenity. That same pavilion still stands today, now
restored and serving as the island’s library. Aino Private Island Hotel opens on 1 November,
2025, ready to welcome guests into a setting defined by nature, heritage and refined simplicity.
