Located within the world-renowned Kruger National Park, Mdluli Safari Lodge offers access to one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations while championing a remarkable story. For guests, the lodge is an immersion into a true African safari, an experience of authentic local charm and hospitality, with 50 oversized luxurious tents, putting you close enough to nature to fall asleep to the sounds of lions and hyenas. Big Five game drives, dinner around the open fire under a blanket of stars, wildlife sightings while lazing at the infinity pool are just some of the magical elements of the experience. Developed as a sustainable tourism initiative,
the lodge is a 50-50 partnership between the Mdluli Community and private investors. Ninety percent of staff are local community members. In 1968, the
community was forcibly removed from their land under the Apartheid government’s park expansion policies. In 1998 they were granted freehold title to the land, forming the Mdluli Reserve, within the park’s boundaries. Community transformation is anchored in the
ethos of the lodge. Clean water projects now serve 4,000 residents; vegetable gardens provide food and income; skills development, transportation and education initiatives combat unemployment. Conservation is equally paramount to the lodge’s
story. A dedicated anti-poaching unit collaborates with Kruger National Park’s honorary rangers and community members. This grassroots approach is helping to protect the park’s wildlife, fauna and flora, and is fostering conservation awareness. Designed by acclaimed architects Luxury
Frontiers, the lodge blends into its natural surroundings and has a light environmental footprint, due to its eco-conscious ethos, including solar power and water purification system. Each guest leaves a lasting positive impact beyond their memorable stay.
