teeth into the desired position. Te rise in the use of virtual plat-

forms for business meetings, the growth of social media sites such as Instagram and the increasing refer- ences to attractive teeth in reality TV shows have caused a surge in demand for cosmetic dental procedures. Te practice has an alternative

approach to patient care with the emphasis on each patient enjoying their experience and smile journey. Te practice’s model moves away from the traditional model of a single general dentist being responsible for treating a patient. Instead, the patient is assessed by a lead dentist and the patient’s treatment is then coordi- nated with different dentists and healthcare professionals within the practice. Te practice covers a total area of 20,000sq ft and is arranged over three floors. Tere are 12 dental surgeons, a therapist, hygienist and 20 support staff. Te practice’s dentists have all

completed additional postgraduate training or hold additional qualifi- cations in different fields of dentistry e.g., Invisalign aligners, root fillings, implants, digital crowns, composite bonding, veneers and tooth whit- ening. Tere’s an immense wealth of knowledge and expertise available to clients of the practice. Any concerns or questions

regarding treatment are alleviated by reviewing the Instagram media accounts affiliated with the practice. Tese can be found @sherwoodden- talpractice.com, @designerdentist and @dr_ farahalam.

famous chesterfield sofas after completing their smile journeys. Te practice offers extended

opening hours with late evening and weekend appointments and can also accommodate the demands and

needs of celebrity clientele.

Initial virtual consultations are also available for patients interested in Invisalign treatment. Tis can be done in the comfort of the patient’s own home or even at work during a break. Tis means that patient’s concerns, hopes and aspirations are already on file before they even step into the building. Te practice is increasing moving

towards digital dentistry; where treat- ment planning, smile design and the manufacturing process is delivered using computer technology. Smiles can now be designed using artificial intelligence and can be demonstrated in situ on an image of a patient’s face prior to any treatment taking place. Te patient is involved in the design process and 3D models can be used to

change the smile and fully customise it to the patient’s requirements. Te practice has invested very heavily in the latest technology and has some of the most up-to-date equipment avail- able in its treatment suites. Te clinical suites are all equipped

with wand cameras that are linked to wide screen televisions, they also have instant digital X-rays that process images within seconds. Te dentists use the latest Swiss fibre optic-equipped electric drills and have air abrasion units to gently sandblast teeth clean. Sherwood Dental Practice has its

own CBCT 3D bone scanner that’s used in the provision of implants and assessing wisdom teeth for extrac- tion. Tis type of machine is usually only found in hospitals or implant clinics and can also be used to assess root canal fillings. Te practice also utilises virtual

monitoring to review a patient’s progression remotely. Tis is ideal for patients who visit the practice from far away. Te patient is issued with a scan box device, which is used with a patient’s smartphone. Te phone prompts the patient to take different photos and videos that are then uploaded to the practice. Tis is monitored by the dentists and is used to manage appointments.

Sherwood Dental Practice is a digi-

tal-first clinic, with Nine iTero digital scanners on site. Tese machines are 3D (or 5D) scanners that can be used to take digital scans of a patient’s dentition for clear aligner treatment, crowns, veneers and bridges. Tey do away with having to have messy impressions taken and provide high accuracy imaging. Te scans can be sent to the laboratory to manufac- ture a crown while the patient is still seated in the dental chair. Te crowns can even be produced and fitted on the same day. Te latest iTero Element 5D

scanner can also aid in caries detec- tion. All new patients to the practice get a scan as part of their check-up. Te model is then backed up on the cloud so that in the future, if the teeth are damaged, the dentist can repli- cate the patient’s original teeth. Te models can also be used to monitor tooth wear in patients that grind their teeth and manufacture trays used for tooth whitening. iTero scanners are also used to

show outcome simulations to show a 3D model of what a patient’s teeth would look like straightened using the Invisalign product. A ‘smile view tool’ can also be downloaded at the practice that allows a patient to see their new straight teeth on a selfie.
