Health, Fitness & Beauty New Year, New You 19

Got your own place in a 2024 event? I

We are looking for supporters to join Team Red Cross in 2024. Could this be you?

f you have secured your own place in an upcoming running event or other challenge, join our team

and help us raise money for people in crisis. Whatever your interest, there’s an event out there for you! So why not run, cycle, walk or try something else to support the British Red Cross? You will be supported throughout

your event preparation and have the opportunity to meet and interact with like-minded runners. Our events team will be on hand

to support you every step of the way, through encouragement with your fundraising, opportunities to meet the team and other runners, and regular updates about the impact of your support. And of course we’ll be there to say a massive thank you afterwards. • Te Red Cross has put kindness into action for over 150 years. • Run for every person whose home has been destroyed in conflict. • Run for every family struggling to put food on the table and keep going. • Run for every community pulling together after an earthquake. • Run for every responder who works around the clock to help others. By running alongside us, you can

help make a vital difference to people in crisis both in the UK and all over the world. Together, we are the world’s emergency responders.

Redefining maternal health for a new generation of mothers

New mothers often get the advice to ‘enjoy the baby bubble’, but the realities of today’s maternal health make it a bubble about to burst. Almost 90% of all women giving birth experience mental and physical difficulties in the years after

T

he majority go unsupported and undiagnosed, leading to possible consequences for them,

their families and society as a whole. Low access to the right healthcare, limited knowledge and no digitalisa- tion in this area means that millions of new mums don’t receive the help and support they so desperately need. Te lack of support for new parents

also leads to significant consequences in the workplace. A recent study showed that 90% of women feel that no support is offered by their employer, and 37% changed jobs because of this.* Tis is why Astrid Gyllenkrok

Kristensen and Sandra Wirstrom started LEIA Health. Best used in tandem with the post-natal NHS care on offer, it’s an app that helps new mums have a healthier transition into moth- erhood, giving them the support they need, right in the palm of their hand. Te duo also position their product as a way for companies to support and retain employees on parental leave. Teir app gives new mums a digital personalised recovery

and journey with medically validated information, Sandra Wirstrom and Astrid Gyllenkrok Kristensen, LEIA Health founders

rehabilitation programs and data- driven insights about their mental and physical health. LEIA Health also offers unique health screenings for post- natal depression and birth injuries to identify risks at an earlier stage. It’s a feature more important than ever in light of the recent UK crisis in maternal mental health. To quote the founders: if mothers thrive, we all thrive.

and parenthood.” VIVIANE HELMINEN, HEAD OF PEOPLE AND CULTURE AT NORRSKEN FOUNDATION
