Beam: helps make life less complicated I

n 2015, Londoner Peter Magnani found himself experiencing increased stress, anxiety and

anger but didn’t know why. Despite a happy family life and

fulfi lling career, he felt an under- lying sense of unease. To untangle his emotions, he turned to daily journalling. He noticed patterns emerging that explained his feelings, simple things like he thought his caff eine intake might be the reason he wasn’t sleeping well, but the real trigger was worrying about his increased spending. Peter said: “Seeing the whole

picture allowed me to ‘connect the dots’ and took the constant guesswork about the root causes of my emotions away. T is clarity allowed me to focus on how to help myself”. Given the positive changes these

insights had in his own life, he wanted to share these benefi ts with others, so Peter started developing Beam, an AI-powered self-management app, in 2021. T e app uses behavioural analytics, powered by artifi cial intel- ligence, to analyse data from various tools and apps people already use to help provide insights and support.

T e technology works by analysing

over 500 behavioural and emotional indicators, from fi tness and sleep trackers to screen time, spending habits, relationships, diaries and more. Beam securely integrates this data, to provide users with a holistic understanding of their lives. It then pinpoints and predicts emotional trig- gers and behaviour patterns, off ering practical and inspirational support across a broad range of areas such as motivation, social media usage, fi nan- cial management, work-life balance, relationships and much more. Beam is not only improving lives but

also challenging considered wisdom. For example, for 67% of young users, spending, screen time and social media impact their stress more signif- icantly than sleep, steps and exercise. Peter says: “Beam is growing fast

because it’s diff erent to anything out there. It’s recently been selected by Mind, the mental health charity, from 20,000 UK wellness apps to be one of only 50 in its inaugural app library, which is a powerful endorsement of our mission to help people.”
