hen the Lexus LS first entered the luxury market 28 years ago, it up- ended a well-established category. Over the past three decades it’s continued to set benchmarks for its
superb craftsmanship, smoothness, quiet drive, documented dependability and long-term quality.
DESIGN THAT DELIGHTS
AND DAUNTS It’s a triumph of design and far more than just a vehicle. The all-new 2018 Lexus LS 500 embodies a new level of flagship luxury in every aspect and is poised to cause a stir both on and off the road. Its radical new design, with a coupé-like silhouette and spaciousness, is raising the bar for agility and comfort. On the outside, you can’t help breaking into a wide grin when you first set eyes on the car’s gleaming, chrome-esque grille, which almost smiles back at you. It puts the “grrr” back in “grille” – menacing, but in the best possible way. With a super-confident, poised-to-pounce
stance on the tarmac, the fifth-generation LS also offers an emotional driving experience and comes replete with cutting-edge technologies that achieve monumental advances in innovation as the symbol of the Lexus brand.
A STYLISH INTERIOR The cabin styling gives both driver and passengers
a sense of space and comfortable security. The design’s centred around the driver, with an operational layout that minimises the need for changes in their posture and line of sight, allowing them to focus on driving. The techniques of Takumi craftsmanship
have been applied to the decorative finishes of the LS 500. The result is a unique, hand-finished interior based on Japanese aesthetics that represents the fusion of traditional skills and the latest production technologies.
UNDER THE SKIN Besides the new LS inheriting the quietness and
comfort you’ve come to expect, much attention’s been paid to improving the car’s steering responsiveness and stability, resulting in a comfortable drive with an acceleration that purrs. In addition to using the Lexus Global
Architecture-Luxury platform, which forms the foundation of Lexus’s front-engine, rear-wheel-drive line-up, a newly developed 3,5-litre, twin-turbo V6 engine with high-level output and environmental performance was selected as a powertrain suitable for a flagship sedan. The Direct Shift-10AT automatic transmission
provides world-class rhythmical gear changes, responding directly to the pressure of the driver’s foot on the pedal.
BUILT FOR COMFORT…
AND SAFE SPEED A multitude of comfort features further enhance how enjoyable the LS 500 is to drive – and the Lexus engineers really have thought of everything. From an adjustable front power seat with a body refresh function and heated and adjustable rear seats to the Lexus Climate Concierge and electronically controlled air suspension that makes entering and exiting the vehicle easier, there’s not much more
you could ask for. Expect to find a touch-sensitive Hybrid
Navigation System, a Mark Levinson brand 3D surround sound system, with sound quality that’s like being in a concert hall, and a hands-free boot- opening function. The new LS also employs the latest active safety
technologies. Not only have improvements been made to the Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and other features of the Lexus Safety System, but a large heads- up display makes for safer driving. The all-new Lexus LS 500 will be on sale in the
USA from February 2018 and we hope to see a South African launch shortly thereafter.
