TOYOTA CONNECT I
f, like me, you grew up in an era when Buck Rogers was off having space adventures and The Jetsons fi lled your Saturday mornings with cool cartoon visions of a future earth fi lled with fl ying cars, you’re probably pretty disappointed at
how far we haven’t come – yet.
With technology moving at a cracking rate and a planet that’s under incredible pressure from more than 7,6 billion of us, the future of cars has had to take a bit of a detour. But that’s a good thing. And it’s a tech-rich detour which, especially where Toyota’s concerned, is 100% committed to doing no further harm to our environment through its Environmental Challenge 2050.
WHAT’S TOYOTA’S ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE 2050?
To go beyond zero environmental impact and achieve a net positive impact, Toyota has set itself six challenges – whether in climate change or resource and water recycling – to demonstrate its commitment to continuing towards 2050 with initiatives that will realise sustainable development together with society.
THE SIX CHALLENGES ARE: New vehicle zero-CO2 Reducing vehicle CO2 emissions challenge:
levels to 90% of those recorded in 2010, with the development of next-generation cars. Life-cycle zero-CO2
emissions challenge: Reducing to zero all CO2
emissions, including those in the manufacturing, disposing of and recycling of vehicles. Plant zero-CO2
emissions challenge:
Achieving zero-CO2 emissions at all plants by developing and using low-CO2 renewable energy sources.
Minimising and optimising water usage:
Reducing the amount of water used in the manufacturing process, purifying what has been used and returning it to the earth.
Establishing a recycling-based society and systems:
Through using new Japanese technology and recycling systems, Toyota will continue its 40-year journey of resource recycling.
Establishing a future society in harmony with nature:
By planting trees and undertaking conservation activities at plants, the ideal is to establish and promote a society in which humans and nature co-exist in harmony.
