LOCATION: Sitting on the city’s popular Nine Street, Pulitzer Amsterdam is close to numerous attractions including Anne Frank House, the Royal Palace and the Red Light District, all of which can be reached in under 10 minutes on foot. A tram stop is seconds away, making it easy to reach Amsterdam Centraal Station, which is a handy change point for those travelling to or from Schiphol airport. The journey between the airport and the hotel takes 25 minutes by car.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: A smiling doorman greets us at the hotel’s impressive entrance before leading us into the huge lobby. The space is decked out with comfortable, quirky seating and the walls adorned with a mixture of historic and contemporary artwork. We are checked in by a beaming receptionist with an infectious enthusiasm for the city, before a porter leads us to our room and gives us a tour, a bike repair kit and a friendly wave goodbye. Expect a warm welcome from the staff here, the service is impeccable.
THE FACTS: The property stretches through 25 connecting 17th and 18th-century canal houses, united by a maze of VoÀÀi`oÀð ƂvÌiÀ wÀÃÌ o«inin} in Ìhi £9ÇäÃ] Ìhi hoÌil Ü>à ÀinoÛ>Ìi` LiÌÜiin £99n >n` Óäää >n` >}>in in Óä£È° /hiÀi >Ài ÓÓx Ãiâi>Lli ÀoomÃ] inVlÕ`in} wÛi Ìhimi` olliVÌoÀ½Ã -ÕiÌià voÀ loÛiÀà ov mÕÃiV] yoÜiÀÃ] LookÃ] >ÀÌ oÀ >nÌiµÕið Our Classic Room was beautiful, with a huge bed, marble bathroom and DS & Durga amenities. A packet of traditional stroopwafels were waiting for us on the dresser, next to an
impressive cocktail shaker and glass collection. There are two dining options: Pulitzer Garden and Jansz, as well as Pulitzer Bar, an elegant and cosy venue overlooking the canal – a perfect spot for people watching while sipping a cocktail.
IDEAL FOR: Couples, families, business people and solo travellers will all feel welcome at this stunning property.
EXPLORE: A bike is the best way to see Amsterdam – pedalling over cobbled streets, across endless bridges and through the vast Vondelpark. Pulitzer has several to hire and the concierge is on hand to design personalised routes for guests. The hotel also has two boats moored outside the inÌÀ>nVi ovviÀin} 9ä-minÕÌi ÌoÕÀÃ ov Ìhi ViÌÞ vÀom Ìhi Ü>ÌiÀ for €54 per person.
WOW: The food at Jansz blew us away. Breakfast was an extensive buffet with options to order from the à la carte menu. Of course, we went for a bit of both and our table was close to buckling under the weight of the delicious plates and mimosas. We ate at Jansz for dinner too and our high expectations after our morning meal were surpassed, with each course more mouthwatering than the last.
