LOCATION: Nestled amid the neighbourhood of the Greek gods, The Dolli stands as a delightful testament to the city’s blend of ancient marvels and modern comforts. With the Acropolis towering high above its back door and the city’s fast-paced, bustling streets of Ermou and Monastiraki at its front, The Dolli is a traveller’s dream. It’s an easy walk to tavernas and arty shops, plus Athens airport is only a 30-minute drive.


FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I am greeted by the warm smile of a lavishly moustachioed doorman; he sets the scene to what lays behind the doors he opens. Well hello Dolli! The design ià iÞi-V>ÌVhin}° /hink m>ÀLli yooÀà echoing the Parthenon’s grandeur, juxtaposed against sleek designer furnishings that exude a cosmopolitan charm. The lobby, bathed in soft, buttery hues, serves as a welcoming cool embrace after a hot day of exploring Athens. The artwork on display is second to none and every piece is lovingly displayed. Be it a priceless Greek antiquity, an original Picasso or a balloon chair by the famous Korean designer Seung Jin Yang, each piece comes from the owner’s collection.


THE FACTS: The Dolli is a luxury boutique property with 46 spacious


rooms, suites and apartments housed in a listed building dating back to 1925. It opened last year after the building was lovingly restored to its present- day prestige under the watchful eye of owner Mari Daskalantonaki, the chief executive of Greek hotel company Grecotel. The design of the rooms is more akin to that of a Greek island hotel, with tall windows and shutters, and a serene all-white colour palette. Advise clients to book a room facing the Acropolis because the view is out of this world. The furniture has been custom made by local businesses. The king-sized bed will afford you the best night’s sleep you’ll ever have. The swanky white marble bathroom – complete with Guerlain toiletries – has a walk-in rain shower that will VomvoÀÌ>LlÞ wÌ ÌÜo >n` > >«>niÃi- style toilet with an illuminated bowl and seat that rises as you approach. There is a coffee station where you can make your morning beverage before returning to that dreamy bed to watch the sunrise over the Acropolis. One cannot speak of The Dolli without mentioning its food and beverage offerings. seafood that pays homage to the Aegean’s bounty of goodies, every dish is a symphony of taste and tradition. Breakfast, served alfresco on the terrace, is a lavish spread of local delicacies and continental favourites, ensuring a hearty start to your day. The hotel also boasts a library; a wood-clad hideaway where you can browse magazines and books beneath an Alexander Calder mobile.
