GLOBAL ECONOMIC SCENARIO AND TOURISM TRENDS The global travel industry is predicti ng subdued growth, thanks in a large part to the sort of economic uncertainty fuelled by fears of recession in both the United States and Europe where Brexit and the collapse of Thomas Cook are taking their toll. This is expected to have a serious impact on the job markets. Recent research undertaken by the World Travel and Tourism Council has revealed that the sector accounted for 10.4 per cent of global GDP and 319 million jobs in 2018 - 10 per cent of total employment. Although there is, as yet, no clear-
cut communicati on from the thought leaders of the travel and tourism industry, if recession does come any ti me soon, jobs will doubtlessly be hit. The situati on in India even more

Indian adventure tourism is at a

yet it welcomes only 3.4 million adventure travellers from a global pool of more than a billion so-called adrenalin junkies. Some of the reasons have been
identi fi ed as a lack of awareness, inadequate marketi ng and promoti on and a lack of safety guidelines. This session is intended to be both a discussion on the current scenario and an platf orm to explore opportuniti es for new avenues.
