Automation is within reach Equipped with a camera vision
system, Robo-Tend is a robot- based automation cell that will be demonstrated by XYZ Machine Tools. It is compatible with the Siemens ShopMill and ShopTurn controls used on the company’s VMCs and turning centres to bring automation within the reach of traditional sub-contract engineering businesses. For the exhibition, the system will be demonstrated attached to an XYZ 750 LR VMC. The interface has been developed to make programming the automation process as easy as possible. Payback is possible in just a few months of operation if purchased outright, says the company, or finance from £2.00/ hour is available. For simultaneous five-axis machining the XYZ UMC-5X
(pictured) will also be demonstrated. This cost-eff ective machine has a direct drive 90rpm table configuration as standard. When tilted 90° towards the rear (component facing forward), there remains 500mm of y axis travel forward of the table surface, allowing larger workpieces to be machined. Its gantry-type design adds greater rigidity and performance, while c-axis rotation via a direct drive, low maintenance, high torque motor, gives 90 revs/min rotational speed; with ±120° on the tilting a-axis, while 600mm axis travel in x and y (500mm in z) maximise use of the 600mm diameter table. Standard spindles are in-line direct drives with 35kW of power and either 12,000/15,000 revs/min, an option to go to a 25kW, 18,000/24,000 revs/min motorised spindle is also available.
See a selection of equipment
Equipment from a selection of suppliers will be seen on the Zen Production Equipment stand. This includes the Hoelzer laser marking system and a PCBA routing system (pictured), an Asscon VP6000 vacuum vapour phase system, Essemtec’s Fox 2 pick- and-place with dispensing, the Puma P&P Spider and Tarantula dispensing and Cubus storage and the Cube 460 selective soldering system from Inertec. Visitors can also hear about other
equipment from suppliers such as Heller Industries (convection and vacuum convection reflow, vertical curing ovens and conformal coating curing systems), PBT
The latest version of the ProtoTrak
control system will be shown on an RMX 3500 bed mill and an RLX 355 ProTurn lathe. The RX adds new features and benefits, primarily a 15.6-inch touchscreen for machining information at the users’ fingertips and pinch-to-zoom, twist-to-rotate operation for closer inspection.

stand N70 Intelligent lifting is intuitive
Workplace improvements to health, safety and ergonomics are off ered by Yaplex. Among the systems on display at this year’s show will be the Solution electric balancer. This provides zero gravity lifting and automatically senses the weight of the load and adjusts the balance accordingly (float mode). It provides intuitive operation and optimum ergonomics, says the company, making it suitable for high speed and precise operations. The Flexi range of lift assists
are a cost-eff ective alternative to pneumatic or electric balancers. They feature single hand operation with infinity variable speed control. The lift and lower controls are operated using thumb throttles, providing intuitive operation. Described as revolutionary, the

Shrink technology grows with new machines
A range of Diebold heat shrink machines, designed and built in Germany, lead the way in shrink technology, says YMT Technologies, which will be exhibiting them at this year’s show. There will also be a high precision
range of toolholders from Kojex, including the DC6 slimline chuck series especially suited for advanced five-axis machining applications. Alongside this, will be some heavy- duty angle heads from OMG, a range of high-specification driven tooling from Algra, the company’s own Tuscan range of precision machine vices and the Fifth Axis range of innovative fixturing and workholding.
Larger products on the stand will include a precise rotary table from Detron and a mist extraction system from AR Filtrazioni. As a thank you, there will be
a 10% discount on all orders placed with the team, on the stand throughout the show!
