Q12. Impressionism and Post- Impressionism

Impressionism and Post-Impressionism has been the topic of Q12. Sometimes it is illustrated. You may be given an artist’s name and asked to name and describe a work by them.

This is a two-part question. You must answer (a) and (b).

* In part (a) you describe and discuss the work under headings: subject matter, composition,

style, colour and technique.

* Part (b) may look for general information on the artist or movement. You also might be

asked to give another example of the artist’s work.

Q13. A 20th-century artist

A 20th-century artist is the topic of Q13. It is a similar format to Q12.

* In part (a) you describe and discuss the work under headings. Subject matter, style, composition, colour, theme, medium and technique have all been offered in the question.

* In part (b) you may be asked to name and describe another work by the artist. General

information on the artist or movement or some aspect of their work might also be asked for.

Q14. A list of artworks and artists

A list of artworks and artists has moved to this position on the paper in recent years. The work can be from any part of the European section, from the 11th to the 20th century.

This is a two-part question. You must answer (a) and (b).

* In part (a) you describe and discuss the work under headings. Subject matter, composition,

form, style, colour and technique are among the headings used.

* In part (b) you are usually asked to name and briefly describe another work by your chosen

artist. NOTE!

This question can often give you a chance to use some information that you have studied that did not come up earlier in the paper.

Section 3: Appreciation of Art

There are seven questions in this section. You must answer one.

Questions in this section do not follow a number order like they do in the previous sections. Questions can, and do, change from year to year. Some topics come up frequently, some not so often.

Gallery, museum or exhibition visit

There has been a question on some aspect of a visit to a museum or gallery every year for the last 10 years.

This is most often a two-part question. The content of the questions can vary a lot from year to year. Most often you are asked to name a gallery, museum or interpretive centre you have visited and to describe two works that you saw using titles and artists’ names. You could also be asked to describe the layout and how the work was displayed.

A second part to the question can ask how you would display work in your school or even to design a phone app to promote gallery visits.
