60 Heart of Dartmouth

Dartmouth’s side streets are packed with unique and vibrant small businesses but are often overlooked. If you do the same you are missing out on some quintessentially special Dartmouth experiences. Just a short walk from the embankment are a wealth of pubs, cafés, restaurants and shops which are well worth exploring. Enjoy a coffee or a cream tea (cream first of course!) in one of the Market Square’s outdoor cafés such as Jenny Koo’s, while watching the hustle and bustle of market day. Why not browse the stalls and small shops that line the Square and pick up some gorgeous gifts or mementoes of your visit to Dartmouth? Over in Anzac Street enjoy a crêpe at Billig et Rozell followed by a curry at The Spice Merchant or a contemporary European meal at the Anzac Bistro. Bag yourself a bit of new and pre-loved designer fashion at Fashion Alchemy. There’s an eclectic mix of boutiques and in- dividual shops in the Market Square including the Foxx Exchange where you can pick up new or pre-loved designer and high street items to

create that stylish look, get your keys cut (and for gen- tlemen, your hair!), throw pots at Olive’s or pick up a rare vinyl LP. If you’re look- ing to sample the freshest of fish from our local waters then Mark Lobb’s Wild Food Devon fish counter is a must! As you walk past the ancient St Saviours Church, you’ll see the Seven

Stars which is the oldest pub in Dartmouth. Further along Higher Street is The Cherub which is the oldest building in Dartmouth. These fine mediaeval buildings are a reminder that this area was once the commercial heart of Dartmouth. The Smith Street Deli and coffee shop serves a selection of drinks, cakes and sandwiches and a full range of deli delights. Opposite, there’s Yarn where their goal is to “craft brunch in the morning and smash burgers in the evening to make people happy”. If you keep on walking up Newcomen Road, you’ll find Mahalo, perfect for homewares or Nash & Duff, an independent lifestyle shop - “handmade, designed and curated here in Dartmouth”.
