FESTIVALS & REGATTAS

Dartmouth Regatta: 28th

- 31st August

Family Fun Weekend Saturday 24th through to Monday 26th

August

Dartmouth’s Royal Regatta is the biggest of the town’s many events and has been running for nearly 180 years. Locals and visitors alike come to enjoy the rowing, sailing, music, fireworks, displays and parades in the river, crabbing and fancy dress competitions and the local rowing crews train hard for the all-important Championships on The River Dart. There’s a great buzz during the week with free music every day in the Royal Avenue Gardens, the traditional Waiters and Waitresses races and so many other free family fun events along with the Regatta Shopping Parade taking over much of the town’s embankment and showcasing so many local businesses.

August

The organisers are always so very proud that His Majesty’s Royal Marine Band perform at the official Opening Ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday 28th August, and also that they receive so much support from organisations and volunteers from throughout the town and across the South Hams. This year’s River Parade is representative of some of the River Dart’s sailing history as we invite participants to commemorate and celebrate the historic Vessels who have sailed and still sail our river with another fantastic gathering on the River Dart. We commemorate 100 years of our very own Paddle Steamer, the Kingswear Castle. There’s something for the whole family with many activities and competitions to get involved in including

Whether it’s dancing on the beach, stroking an award-winning Devonshire bull, watching a military air display or eating local crab by the water, there’s an event to suit everyone in this part of Devon (see pages 62-63). Dartmouth Regatta is still the jewel in the crown attracting thousands from near and far whilst music and food lovers await our very own local music and food festivals with the promise of a buzzing weekend in May and October respectively. South Devon is brimming with the best food, music and even pirates so watch out for a year of exciting events.
