Shoalstone Beach The shingle beach of Shoal- stone is near to the busy fishing harbour of Brixham. It is great for families with plenty of large rocks to climb and opportunities to buy ice creams.
Slapton Sands & Torcross Slapton Sands stretches two miles from Strete Gate to Torcross. The shingle beach is popular with walkers, anglers and wave watchers. Just a few metres inland from the salty sea, is the fresh water of the largest natural lake in the south west - Slapton Ley. It’s a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is surrounded by reed-beds, marshes and woodlands. At Torcross there’s a World War Two Sherman Tank - brought here as part of Operation Tiger to rehearse the D-Day Landings but it ended up on the seabed after a German attack. Recovered from the water it now stands as a memorial to the hundreds of American soldiers who lost their lives that day.
