Historians We are now starting the regular activities of our normal year and 11th September saw the first meeting of the Kingswear Historians when Alan Forster gave a talk on The Greenway Frieze which was left behind by the American officers who were billeted there during World War 11, or at least most of the frieze was. Agatha Christie, on taking back residence after the war, liked the frieze except for the section depicting Stalin, Churchill and Roosefelt, so she had them painted out. It is suspected that Stalin was the objection in this case.

Society held its annual exhibition of members’ paintings in the Masonic Hall in Dartmouth. Several Kingswear painters were among their numbers although it was a Dartmouth artist, Lynda Russell , who took the Best in Show prize this year. At least the poor weather in early
August was favourable to someone and meant that there was a good footfall at the exhibition and quite a creditable amount of paintings were sold. This all helps to go towards expenses of the society during the year; as we all know speakers charge more and the cost of a venue increases with familiar regularity. The stewards and other

Exhibition During August the Dartmouth Art
organisational arrangements were planned by Jan Trevorrow of Kingswear who did a good job, despite having a rather intermittent card-reader in the hall. She still managed to sell 9 paintings!
