n the world of art, every brushstroke and contour tells a story. At Bearnes Hampton and Littlewood, modern and old masterpieces alike find their place in our biannual 20th Century and Contemporary auctions, as well as quarterly fine art auctions. Our Picture department is a vibrant tapestry,


encompassing oil paintings, miniatures, watercolours, drawings, engravings, etchings, and prints. Noteworthy milestones include uncovering an undocumented Hogarth portrait and two Constable sketches. The department has achieved world record prices in the last three decades, including the astonishing £410,000 sale of a masterpiece by Swiss artist Wolfgang Adam Topffer. We are thrilled to introduce our new picture


consultant, David Vyvyan-Robinson, with over 35 years of experience in the industry. A member of the Society of London Art Dealers, his journey began as a dealer in prestigious London galleries, where he honed his skills with old master prints, topographical pieces, botanical illustrations, landscapes, portraits and more. He even embarked on the restoration of a historic house in Portugal, deepening his understanding of Portuguese art. Upon his return to London, he joined a leading firm of art valuers and advisors in St. James, specialising

in Impressionism and major artworks. David’s personal interests lean toward the topographical and the historical or archival role paintings played before the introduction of the camera. He enjoys finding early views depicting local areas, such as Exeter or Torquay, and seeing how much these places have changed over time. However, his vast experience allows him to cover a wide range of genres, ages, and styles, and we take great pride in helping you to value, or sell any pictures you may have.
