ow that summer and our Regatta are over, it’s time to turn our thoughts to the next big event in town, which is, of course, the

Dartmouth Food Festival. We’ve both been involved in this event for many years and Julie is now our Festival Chair, so this is a really busy month for us. This year the Festival runs from 20th – 22nd

October and as ever, we will be welcoming over 100 exhibitors from the South West all of whom have been specially selected to bring you the best the region has to offer. We love to welcome new businesses and products, and this year there are over 30 of them to explore. Here’s who I’ll be heading to see. First stop of the day has to

be for a coffee – and as a life- long fan of the old Landrover, I’m looking forward to seeing the converted 110 version that belongs to Wavi Coffee. I wonder if they need a new driver? There’s always time for a

sweet treat and I’ll certainly be heading over to Dough Bros. for my morning snack. They produce hand-made, artisan doughnuts laden with fruit, drizzles and your favourite biscuits and chocolates - a far cry from the stodgy, fat-laden rings I remember from my childhood. And to sneak in my bag for later on – definitely a bar of Exe Chocolate – crafted by hand in a one-woman chocolate factory in Exeter. Beautifully packaged and with interesting flavour combinations, I may even buy a few for presents … maybe. To off-set all that sugar I’ll be sure to stock up on some fruit and vegetables with a visit to The Apricot Centre stall. And to keep my gut healthy too, well there’s Curious Kombucha, a small company with a rather large following. Emma produces a range of delicious Kombuchas and combines her love of foraging with her passion for these fermented drinks. I

then. It’s a toss-up between Barbican Bao (and one of their unbelievably moreish gyoza – that’s a crispy dumpling to you and me), Artisan Pizzeria who get top marks for sourcing their toppings and flour from local artisan suppliers or the Flavel Café who will be in the Market Square on Saturday and Sunday offering a tasty range of soups, stews and scones. Mind you as the Festival runs for three days I can have them all … Afternoons are a great time to mooch for Christmas

pressies, and I have my eye on a stunningly hand crafted knife from Two Sticks Forge made by Andrew Lindsay - a true craftsman. I know someone who’s a bit of a chilli geek so some fiery sauces from the Cornish Smoke Squad are on the list. And for my nature loving friend some bee related gifts from Dartmouth Bees. Whew … after all that shopping I’m going to need

giving you not one, not two, but three recipes for super easy summer salads. Let’s be honest, no-one wants to be stuck in the kitchen creating complicated dishes when the sun is shining, so pop a chicken in the oven, pile these delicious salads into

to sit down at home with a little drink – and there’s certainly no shortage of wine, beer and spirit suppliers at the event. To add to my already substantial gin collection, I may go for a bottle of Jellyfish Gin – a pine and orange flavoured spirit that changes colour with the addition of an ‘infusion pocket’. And perhaps a bottle of Somerset Cider Brandy for my Christmas pudding! I hope you enjoy exploring our exhibitors as much as

we do. They are all passionate about what they do, so please take the time to talk to them and find out more about our incredible local artisan producers.
