What’s On in Dartmouth By Danni Pinnington – Director, Visitor Marketing

I

t’s nearly 2 years since the team at Explore Dartmouth took over the Visitor Centre and set

up exploredartmouth.co.uk as the official tourism website for Dartmouth. One of our founding pillars was that the website would be managed for Dartmouth by Dartmouth, providing a website packed with stories and information from within the town. An important part of making our

website the best reference point for all that is great about Dartmouth is the What’s On section. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing an event in the Royal Avenue Gardens and wondering what it’s all in aid of. Or realising that there was a beer festival you hadn’t heard about! Whilst By The Dart is an excellent source of information, an online equivalent for Dartmouth was missing. So, one of our Board Members – Julie Derbyshire at Dudley’s Café – took on the task of developing our What’s On section. 18 months later this is now the

best place online to find out about local events and activities. Local businesses and organisations have recognised that a quick email to events@exploredartmouth.co.uk will get an event online on the website and also on the Visitor App. What’s more this is the information referenced by the monthly social media summary of what is coming up, shared by Explore Dartmouth across Instagram and Facebook. A listing on our What’s On page

is provided free of charge and is proving so popular that it is getting traction from other towns in the area. We know how much time and effort businesses and volunteers put into the fantastic events and activities in our town and district across the year. Some of these are key fundraisers for local charities, others create a chance for like- minded groups to get together or are part our heritage – and all of them are part of the fabric that makes a community. They are also

part of the opportunity to attract visitors or encourage them to stay longer and so this is a really important part of the work Explore Dartmouth does for the Town. We also have the What’s On

window at the Visitor Centre, where A4 portrait event posters can be displayed as a more traditional way of raising the profile of events. Of course, managing all this information isn’t just about sharing events – it is also about giving you a single point of reference for when you want to know what’s happening this week, next week or later in the month. Or perhaps you are looking for activities to keep your own visitors entertained – whatever their age. So, don’t forget to share your event details with events@ exploredartmouth.co.uk and remember to check out exploredartmouth.co.uk/whatson when you are wondering how to use your free time!
