Find out more Tis remarkable chapter of Dartmouth’s history will be brought to life during the Coastal Forces Heritage Weekend. On Friday evening at Te Flavel, at 5.30 pm, a special

illustrated talk will tell the full story of Naval and Secret Forces in Dartmouth during the war - from the first arrivals to the build- up to D-Day. Hear from Captain Andy Bray (Captain, BRNC), Captain Alan Watson (HMS Medusa) and Jonathan Turner. On Saturday, four further talks at the Flavel (10-15:30) will

explore individual aspects of Naval and Secret Forces Coastal Forces operations in Dartmouth in more depth. Tim Spicer will cover the activities of the 15th Flotilla and it’s clandestine cross- channel activities. Dr Harry Bennet of Plymouth University, will explain how the potent threat presented by the eBoats, broke through at Exercise Tiger, and how the threat was contained thereaſter. Captain Alan Watson will go into greater detail about HMS Medusa and her role as navigation leader to Omaha beach on D Day, as well as her role as a Harbour Defence Launch in the years before. Finally, Jonathan Turner will bring to light the extraordinary story of the Fairmile gunboats and the Galmpton shipyard that built them so successfully throughout the war. And throughout the weekend, visitors can step aboard HMS

Medusa moored on the Town Jetty one of the last surviving Harbour Defence Motor Launches of her kind - and experience a piece of this history for themselves (donations welcome). And to explore further, Dartmouth Museum hosts an exhibi-

tion about the Coastal Forces, and a special feature film about the 15th Flotilla. Open daily 11-3pm
