Dartmouth Pride J

une is Pride month, a time rooted in the history of the 1969 Stonewall uprising in

New York, when members of the LGBTQ+ community stood up against injustice and sparked a global movement for equality, visibility, and acceptance. Over the decades, Pride has grown into both a celebration and a reminder of the importance of community, resilience, and progress. While Pride celebrations around the world take on many forms from marches to corporate parades, concerts, and shows, Pride can also be a simple gathering of a small LGBTQ+ com- munity in a rural town in Devon. This is where we find ourselves with Dartmouth Pride. As Dartmouth Pride marks its

sixth year, it stands as a testament to what can be built when com- munity and compassion come together. Since it launched in 2021, it has become more than just an annual event and has grown into a symbol of connection, belonging, and shared joy. For many, it offers a space where people can be fully themselves, surrounded by others who support and celebrate them.

What makes Dartmouth

Pride especially mean- ingful is the town itself. Dartmouth is not only picturesque but also deeply welcoming and is known for its kindness and diversity. Dart- mouth Pride aims to strengthen that sense of unity while serving the diverse needs of the LGBTQIA+ community with open- ness and care. For those who may not be

part of the LGBTQ+ community, Pride is an invitation: to listen, to learn, and to stand alongside oth- ers. Allies in the shape of friends, families, & neighbours have helped Dartmouth Pride grow and foster an environment where inclusivity can thrive. That support is felt in every act of kindness throughout Dartmouth Pride festival. Our message is simple: Whether you identify as LGBTQIA+ or as an ally, ALL ARE WELCOME.
