s Spring blooms across the county, Bearnes Hampton and Littlewood are ready as always with a fresh line up of auctions offering
antiques, collectables, curiosities, and jewellery. Recent sale highlights include a tin of Colonial beef dripping that went on the 1953 expedition to summit Mount Everest. Belonging to Mike Westmacott of Torquay, who oversaw keeping the mountainside camps supplied, the tin was brought back, likely as a souvenir. Despite the pre-sale
estimate of £80-120, the tin ultimately sold for £500 (plus Buyers Premium and VAT); even the most unusual of items can perform well at auction. Within the same Sporting and Collectors Auction, two collections of David Bowie autographs sold for £1,200 and £1,700, despite both having estimates of £300-500. In the 20th Century and
Contemporary Auction, there were strengths in furniture; a Danish teak dining table and chairs sold for £1,700, far surpassing its estimate of £500-800. Similarly, a pair of oak and leather footstools from the workshop of Robert
