In summary, higher speed and unit power output in motorcycles necessitate better shear stability, wear performance and oxidation control than passenger cars while dealing with higher fuel dilution. Differences in cooling between both engines require better oxidation control and higher viscosity to maintain film protection in the motorcycle engine.


The lubrication challenges to be overcome in motorcycles include high friction required by the


clutch and gear pitting and wear protection (minimum Phosphorus content and HTHS). Motorcycle oil development requires specialised tests to confirm motorcycle oil performance.
