AYBE IT’S BECAUSE there’s a new decade round the corner, but I’m detecting a certain sense of urgency creeping into a lot of industry narrative at the moment. Consultant Guy Snelgar urges TMCs to

redefine themselves sooner than later by confining the transaction fee to the history books (p42), or risk new entrants stealing their business. Meanwhile, Claudia Adams, the new chair of IATA’s

European Travel Manager Advisory Group, wants peers to embrace NDC and shape the “new airline distribution ecosystem for corporates… buyers need to accept a certain level of disruption ourselves; we can’t just expect it of others” – turn to p82 for more. Adams – like many in the industry – tips 2020 as a year of maturity for NDC; there’s certainly been a critical mass of industry players collaborating on it over the past 12 months. But is it all talk – as Egencia’s Rob Greyber alludes on p48 – or are we really on the cusp of change?

SHINING BRIGHT As we approach 2020, Buying Business Travel also turns a corner, departing Panacea Media and becoming part of Northstar Travel Group – see p12 for more. We’re joining a family that includes Business Travel

News, The Beat and Phocuswire in the US, among other titles, plus the Business Travel Show in the UK, taking place 26-27 February 2020 (see what’s in store on p24). At the show, we’re particularly looking forward to taking stock of how the new decade is shaping up.
