‘CONSCIOUS TRAVEL’ IN SPOTLIGHT

Ethical and socially responsible travel will be the major theme of February’s Business Travel Show. Other hot topics will include the latest in data management, technology and accommodation

CONSCIOUS TRAVEL – or, more specifically, conscious travel management – is being thrown into the spotlight at the Business Travel Show 2020 with new conference content focused around traveller health as well as ethically and socially responsible travel. Panellists will question whether it is “time to introduce an ethical travel programme” during the pre-show Hosted Buyer Conference. And, on day one, the show will look at how car rental may offer a green alternative to travel programmes thanks to major innovations, including telematics, car sharing, car clubs and electric vehicles transforming pricing, operations, sustainability and duty-of-care priorities.

A second session on the first day will focus on traveller

wellbeing and promises to help buyers progress from awareness to practical improvements, while also successfully securing the backing of senior management. Group event director David Chapple commented:

“Mounting pressure from climate change activists, investors and employees means companies need to rethink how their business travel affects the environment and human rights. “At the Business Travel Show next year, we will ask how

travel managers can help their companies become more socially responsible, and whether there really can be such a thing as an ethical travel programme.” Other topics featuring on the programme include data, distribution, technology, risk and supplier management, alternative accommodation, as well as a brand new session, that will ask buyers, “What’s the biggest waste of time about managed travel?”

The Business Travel Innovation Faceoff kickstarts both days of the Business Travel Show 2020. An audience of 150 corporate travel/

procurement buyers will watch eight presentations of cutting-edge products, technologies and services. Each presenter has seven minutes to show

how their innovation supports business travel. Then, after a four-minute Q&A from our panel of judges, it’s the audience’s turn to grill them. Two winners will be selected; one by the

judges and one by the buyers. Last year’s award winner, Taptrip (pictured

below) will return to the show as an exhibitor. Find out more: businesstravelshow.com/ innovation-faceoff
