Wallpaper You might think wallpaper is a no-no in the bathroom, but


because more of us have started to ask for it, manufacturers are producing wider ranges of specialised solutions. These products range from top end, including West One Bathrooms’ Wet System waterproof wallpaper by Wall & Deco – which can be installed directly into the shower or behind a bath – to more mainstream ‘scrubbable’ or wash-resistant vinyl papers, which can withstand the odd splash. That’s not to say you can’t have regular wallpaper if your


heart is set on a particular design – but ensure the room is well-ventilated with an extractor fan and window and place it on a wall away from direct contact with water. You can protect it further with a coat of Polyvine’s decorators varnish. Striking designs, especially tropical and botanical prints, are


great for adding colour and a sense of fun – think Chinese silks and chintzy fl orals and palm prints. To make a real statement, consider taking wallpaper over the ceiling, especially in a small bathroom. It might seem counterintuitive to fi ll a compact space with a busy pattern, but it will feel more luxurious.
